Studying for finals

You should be studying for finals right now. A lot of students are gearing up for their last big academic push of the season – and even more of them are procrastinating, because finals suck. If you’re a cannabis connoisseur, it’s easy to smoke your way to solid C’s. Or you can be smart, and keep these tips in mind.

There are four main things to keep in mind about cannabis while studying for finals. Picking the right strain is the first step, and it’s important to monitor your intake so you don’t lose focus of the task at hand.

Use small psychology hacks, like creating a reward system, so studying becomes more like a fun game. Be aware of your surroundings so you, and only you, dictate the terms of your cannabis consumption in conjunction with studying. Follow all these steps and go ace those exams!

Pick Your Strains Carefully

Studying for Finals can be a daunting and arduous process. Cannabis can certainly help take the edge off and make studying more bearable, but you have to picky about what you smoke. The most important thing to keep in mind is that not all strains are created equal and choosing to the right strain will make or break your study habits.

For most people, a sativa, or sativa hybrid will provide the energy and creativity needed to structure your study habits accordingly. On the flip side, if stress is preventing you from studying at all, a mild indica may just do the trick. Experiment with strains and find the one that provides enough balance, focus, and stress prevention. Ask your budtender for an uplifting and cerebral strain and make studying far more enjoyable.

Don’t Over-Consume

If you choose to consume cannabis while studying, mind your tolerance. The last thing you want to do is over-consume and not be able to study so finding your sweet spot is crucial to your success.

An important thing to keep in mind is how you consume cannabis. In order to prevent over-consumption, small pipes, vaporizers, or “pinner” joints may be better options than blunts, bongs, and dabs.

It all comes down to your level of comfort and tolerance but remember, when it comes to studying, less is more.

Use Weed as a Reward

My favorite way to use cannabis while studying is to implement reward system. I would set specific study goals, and use cannabis as a reward. If I studied for X amount of hours, or was able to retain X information, I would let myself consume X amount of cannabis. This created a ritual and a routine, which made studying the hard/boring topics a lot more tolerable because I had an incentive.

In order for this system to work, be clear about your goals, how you intend to accomplish them, and truly enjoying the reward that awaits you upon completion. It’s easy to let your reward system turn into a procrastination system, if you’re not focused.

Set and Setting

An underrated thing to keep in mind about weed when studying is where you are smoking and whom you are smoking with. This is an important psychological factor as it can influence the outcome of results more than you may be aware of.

If you and your buddies regularly smoke and then go get pizza, avoid doing this during finals. On the flip side, create a new ritual or routine whereby you find other classmates who like to indulge and make the session about studying. It is important to stay focused on the task at hand so being aware of your set and setting can make all the difference.
