The Tangerine Dream marijuana strain deserves all the praises it has received. The strain is an hybrid between three already wonderful strains, Afghani, G-13 and Neville’s Haze. Tangerine Dream has inherited all of the best genetics of this three strains making it a crowd favourite. G-13 is a potent cannabis strain with a lot of urban legend surrounding it. It is believed to have been stolen by an unknown technician from the University of Mississippi, having been grown by a group of CIA and FBI agents to harvest the best marijuana strains. Afghani is an Indica dominant strain that offers many of the benefits as the Tangerine Dream, which we will look at later in this article. Neville’s Haze is a Sativa dominant strain that won the High Times Cannabis Cup as early as 1998.

Psychotic Effects

With a high THC content of up to 25%, Tangerine Dream is highly psychoactive. Because of this, it is best consumed by weed connoisseurs. But in the event that first-time smokers want to try this incredible strain, certain precautions must be taken, like ensuring you consume it in the safety of your own home, preferably with someone you trust there as well. Having someone there while you try this strain for the first time will ensure that you have someone to calm you down in case you become too paranoid. When smoked, Tangerine Dream gives you an instant head rush making you feel alive. You will feel inspired when smoking this strain, with a warm feeling inside which you will bask in especially if you have been going through a particularly hard time. By far, enjoying a joint of this strain or some Tangerine Dream infused coffee will be more enjoyable than a flask of rum or other liquor that will probably lead to a hang over or other undesirable side effects.

Other than for its medicinal benefits, this strain is great for smoking when you want to get productive, for example if you have house chores or a manuscript to finish writing. Unlike other strains, with Tangerine Dream you keep a clear head instead of the sometimes ‘high’ feeling you have when you smoke. Additionally, you won’t experience couch lock (which can sometimes occur after smoking some other strains) as long as you keep busy when you smoke Dream.

Genetics

Certain yields of this strain may be Sativa dominant but Barney’s Farm, the creators of Tangerine strain out of Amsterdam, creates a Indica Dominant strain. Smoking this cannabis strain gives you the best of both Sativa and Indica because of its almost equal balance. With a name like Tangerine Dream, you can correctly imagine the taste of this marijuana strain. It has a citrusy, lemony taste. It sometimes has a  sweet taste or even a spicy taste. When smoked it leaves a tangy after taste in the mouth. Its flowers and buds are large and thick when flowering. The leaves are green with some strains having a dark purple color. This purple color is brought about by the effect of colder temperatures on the flower’s pigment. The flowers have a white coating that’s sticky and is proof of the strain’s high THC content.

Growing the Strain

Tangerine Dream kush grows well indoors as well as outdoor. But you will need to be in a humid climate and have a lot of sunlight if you are it outdoor. The strain is quite bushy and resembles Indica type strains than Sativa types. Dream in a pot to only 3 or 4 feet so it can be easily grown indoor. Because of it’s strong stalks thanks to its genetic makeup, there is no need to give the plant much support when flowering.

Dream takes 8 to 10 weeks when cultivated indoors . When cultivated outdoors it will harvest by the latter part of October. Dream has quite a big yield with 46 to 56 grams per square foot. This strain is also best consumed when cured. Curing helps to preserve the taste of the bud as well as enhances the smoking experience. Here are the steps:

1.Hang the buds upside down or lay them on a surface that will allow for good air circulation for up to days. Humidity should not exceed 50% and the temperature should be around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.When the stems fall off, you should seal the buds in jars that are airtight. The humidity should not exceed 65% and the temperature should not exceed 70 degrees.

Tip: Remember to check jars daily for up to a week as mould can develop. This strain can be enjoyed in a number of ways. It can be smoked, vaporized, eaten and drunk.  With its citrusy/ spicy flavour it goes well with foods and drinks of a similar taste.
